We Light a Candle Poem [in honor of Memorial Day]

Our Bereavement Coordinator, Rev. Barritt Durbin, regularly reads a poem called We Light a Candle at memorial services. Today on Memorial Day, in honor of the lives lost while serving in our nation's armed forces, we're posting this poem on our blog. We remember.

We Light a Candle

We light a candle for each sunrise and sunset their eyes beheld.

We light a candle for each star that their hearts wished upon.

We light a candle for the tears that spilled out of their eyes in moments of sorrow and moments of sheer awe.

We light a candle for the sound of their laughter echoing still in our hearts.

We light a candle for each cup of coffee, each glass of wine, each meal shared.

We light a candle for the dances.

We light a candle for each fight that was followed by forgiveness.

We light a candle for the lessons they learned and in return shared.

We light a candle for love.
